South America
Brazil has embraced the combination of renewables and LNG. The country has developed more than 30 MTA of import capacity (37, including the three recent terminals that just entered in operation in Brazil in 2024.
One is in São Paulo (TRSP from Compass), another is in Para (Barcarena) and the third located is in Santa Catarina state (both from New Fortress Energy)).
When the hydro stocks are low, Brazil imports LNG, and when there is sufficient hydro as in 2023 they import less. The combination provides the balance of energy security at the lowest cost and lowest emissions.
