Shanghai expo promotes international trade

LNG can deliver cleaner energy for China

ExxonMobil showcased its LNG strengths at the 2nd annual China International Import Expo in Shanghai during November. More than 180 countries and nearly 3,900 enterprises participated in the expo seeking new business opportunities as China opens its markets to the world.

The ExxonMobil LNG Market Development Inc. team amplified the vital role natural gas can play to fuel China’s economic growth and reduce carbon emissions. For the past decade, ExxonMobil has worked with national oil companies Sinopec, PetroChina and CNOOC to provide LNG to China, helping millions of Chinese enjoy higher standards of living, improved air quality and reliable access to energy.

To further strengthen our mutually beneficial relationship, Alex Volkov, ExxonMobil LNG Marketing Vice President, met with Tian Jinghui, Chairman of PetroChina International, on Day One of the expo. They discussed ExxonMobil projects and expansions in places like Papua New Guinea, Mozambique and Australia that can continue to supply China’s LNG markets.

Irtiza Sayyed, President of ExxonMobil LNG Market Development Inc., and Chen Gang, President of Unipec, the Sinopec trading subsidiary, signed a Letter of Intent for developing LNG trading volumes. Sayyed also spoke at a Sinopec forum, expressing high expectations for continued cooperation to supply LNG to Chinese customers.

A highlight of the expo for Tze San Koh, President of China Gas Marketing, was her video interview with CNOOC Daily. “In the mid-1990s, ExxonMobil was among the first international oil companies to work with CNOOC on LNG imports to China,” she said. “We have seen CNOOC grow to become China’s largest LNG importer. We look forward to continuing great collaboration between CNOOC and ExxonMobil.”
